‍ ‍CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

14 years of frontline clinical and assessment experience

Horizon Clinical Group is clinically led by a Registered Mental Health Nurse, NMC registered, with 14 years of frontline experience within mental health, including extensive experience in clinical assessment, formulation and care planning.

This breadth of clinical experience brings a thoughtful and individualised approach to ADHD assessment. Your experiences are considered within the context of your wider history, mental health, relationships, work, education and everyday functioning — rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation.

ADULT ADHD ASSESSMENT

Thorough. Individual. Evidence-based.

An ADHD assessment should be more than completing a questionnaire and receiving a result.

At Horizon, assessment is centered around understanding you — your experiences, your history and the ways in which difficulties may have affected different areas of your life.

The assessment considers current ADHD symptoms alongside developmental history, mental health, functioning and the impact of difficulties across important areas such as work, education, relationships and home life.

The aim is to build a clear and comprehensive clinical picture, helping you understand whether ADHD provides an appropriate explanation for your experiences.

STRUCTURED CLINICAL ASSESSMENT

A comprehensive assessment built around your individual experience

Before your appointment, you will be asked to complete relevant screening questionnaires. As part of your assessment, you may be asked to complete screening tools or questionnaires alongside other pre- assessment information . These tools provide useful information to help inform the wider assessment, but are not used in isolation to determine a diagnosis.

Your clinical assessment then explores your experiences in greater depth, including your developmental and personal history, current symptoms, mental health, functioning and the impact of difficulties on everyday life.

The DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults) is used as a structured diagnostic interview alongside clinical history, clinical interview and professional judgement. The DIVA-5 is based on the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for ADHD and provides a structured framework for exploring both current and childhood symptoms and their impact.

Your experiences are considered across different areas of life, including work, education, relationships and home, helping to establish whether symptoms have been persistent, pervasive and associated with meaningful functional impact.

The assessment brings together the available evidence with professional clinical judgement to provide a considered and individualised outcome — with the aim of providing not only diagnostic clarity, but meaningful validation and understanding of your lived experience where ADHD is supported by the clinical evidence.

CLINICAL GUIDANCE

Informed by NICE Guideline NG87

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: diagnosis and management

Horizon’s assessment approach is informed by NICE Guideline NG87, with consideration given to developmental history, current symptoms, functional impairment, mental health and the wider clinical picture.

NICE guidance emphasises that ADHD diagnosis should be based on a full clinical and psychosocial assessment, including developmental and psychiatric history and consideration of symptoms and impairment across different areas of life.

This provides an important clinical framework for ensuring that assessment is thorough, structured and focused on the individual rather than relying on screening questionnaires or rating scales alone.

DIAGNOSIS, VALIDATION & MOVING FORWARD

Clarity you can take forward

For many adults, an ADHD assessment is about more than receiving a diagnosis. It can provide validation, greater understanding of lifelong experiences and a clearer way of making sense of difficulties that may have affected everyday life.

Where ADHD is diagnosed, your diagnostic report provides professional supporting documentation that you can use when discussing appropriate accommodations or reasonable adjustments with your employer, university or other organisation.

Where applicable, this may include conversations around reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010. Decisions about adjustments remain with the relevant employer, university or organisation.

Horizon focuses on assessment, diagnosis and understanding — providing a professional, evidence-based service without medication prescribing or titration.
